Aaliyah Dana Haaughton gained prominence after the release of the album she dubbed Age Ain't Nothing More Than an Number in 1994. She was only 15 at the time and the album became Gold. R. Kelly was a major influence on this collaboration which put the singer into the limelight. In 1996, she collaborated alongside Jermaine Dupri and Timbaland to record her follow-up album One In A Million which contained the number-one hit single If Your Girl Only Knew. Aaliyah became a well-known R&B vocalist after the release. In 2000, she appeared in the romance and action film Romeo Must Die alongside martial arts legend Jet-Li. Joel Silver, a film producer who was at an award show when she got the role and spotted her. In 2002, she was in the vampire film Queen of the Damned based on the Anne Rice book. The year 2003 saw her starred on screen in The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. The singer received four Grammy nominations between 1999 and 2003. She employs Aarti Man and Aarti Mahumdar as her professional name. Though her first career was dominated by minor television and film performances, she rose to greater recognition in the latter half of 2000s. Other notable work includes Grey's Anatomy, Suits and Leverage. She's also appeared in major commercials of brands such as Volvo, an international auto maker. The mother of her daughter who lives in Los Angeles and is pursuing acting.
